Globe Aroma & Hana Miletić - ‘txt, Is Not Written Plain, draft 4’ (2017)

NL/ De audio- en textielinstallatie is het resultaat van een langdurige samenwerking tussen een groep vrouwen van het Brusselse open kunstenhuis Globe Aroma en kunstenares Hana Miletić. Het werk bestaat uit handgemaakte vilten en geschreven poëzie, voorgedragen door de deelneemsters. Wolvilten is een van de oudste handgemaakte vormen van textielwerk. Het vereist geen ander instrument dan je handen. De poëtische teksten zijn vrije associaties van woorden die geïnspireerd zijn door het proces van het vilten en de plasticiteit van (de) taal zelf. Er is een micropolitieke dimensie aan deze verscheidenheid van handen en stemmen, die de techniek van het vilten poëtisch weerspiegelt.

EN / The audio and textile installation is a result of an extensive collaboration between a group of women of the Brussels open art house Globe Aroma and artist Hana Miletić. The works consists of handmade felts and written poetry, recited by the participants. Wool felting is one of the oldest handmade forms of textile work. It doesn't require any other instrument than your hands. The poetic texts are free associations of words inspired by the process of felting and the plasticity of (the) language itself. There is a micropolitcal dimension to this diversity of hands and voices, which poetically reflects the technique of felting.

De film documenteert de derde Internationale Vrouwenconferentie in Nairobi in 1985, die parallel liep met de officiële VN-conferentie. De alternatieve conferentie van vrouwenbewegingen en niet-gouvernementele organisaties werd bijgewoond door 14.000 vrouwen, activisten en feministen uit voornamelijk niet-westerse landen. Gedurende tien dagen bespraken ze verscheidene politieke kwesties zoals vrede, ontwikkeling, Apartheid, Islam, lesbianisme, geweld en seksuele mutilatie, de relatie tussen Israël en Palestina,… (bron: Centre Audiovisuel Simone de Beauvoir)

The film documents the third International Women’s Conference in Nairobi in 1985, which ran in parallel to the official UN conference. The alternative conference of women’s movements and non-governmental organizations was attended by 14.000 women, activists and feminists from mainly non-Western countries.
